Become a Hero

Volunteers who know what to do in an overdose. Every Hero passes the test below with a perfect score.

1. Learn the steps

Recognize an overdose, give naloxone, support breathing, stay safe.

2. Pass at 100%

A random 12-question test in lockdown mode. Every answer must be right.

3. Enroll

Link your certificate to your account. Valid for one year.

Hero certification test

  • 12 questions drawn at random from a larger bank on recognizing an overdose, naloxone, breathing support, safety and privacy.
  • You must get every question right (100%). Grading happens on NarcoGuard's server.
  • 20 minutes. The test opens full screen and is voided if you switch apps or tabs, leave full screen, or the window loses focus.
Proctors: lock the device to this test

A web page cannot block other apps. To make sure no other app can be used, lock the device before starting:

iPhone or iPad (Guided Access): Settings → Accessibility → Guided Access → turn on and set a passcode. Open this page, triple-click the side (or Home) button, then tap Start. Only you can end it with the passcode.

Android (app pinning): Settings → Security → App pinning (or Screen pinning) → on, with “Ask for PIN before unpinning”. Open Recents, tap the browser's icon, then Pin.

Keep the test taker in view; lockdown and pinning do not stop another device being used.

Enroll as a Hero

Pass the test first. Enrollment needs a certificate from a perfect score.

Nearby help requests are not live. Before they can be, they need a separate safety and privacy review, your explicit opt-in, a per-session naloxone-readiness check, and a way to pause or leave at any time. Heroes never replace 911.

Study before the test

  • Signs of an opioid overdose and how to check breathing
  • Giving nasal naloxone, and when to give a second dose
  • Rescue breaths, CPR and the recovery position
  • Your safety, the person's privacy, and what happens after naloxone

Hands-on CPR and naloxone classes from a local health department or the Red Cross are strongly recommended.
